Windows 10 - Optimize the performance of your new laptop - Tips

Some tips to optimize the performance of your new laptop… (Some of them are personal preferences, so feel free to tweak to your liking.)

Note : All settings can be directly searched by keywords/names directly in Start Menu or in the left-side panel in the Settings window.

PERFORMANCE

  1. To improve performance : Go to Settings > Apps > Startup >>> Disable the apps you do not want to start up automatically.
For e.g. Zoom meetings, Any other app showing high impact. You can do this from the Start up tab on the Task Manager too.
  1. Change Performance Options to Best performance. (The visual jazz of windows would be reduced though)

  1. Disable unnecessary windows services. Type ‘services.msc’ in the Run dialog box to access Services.

Stop the services like Printer spooling, if not required. Also stop Adobe Acrobat, Java, Google and Docker Update services.

  1. For better performance : Click on battery icon in task tray and move the slider to Best performance when laptop is plugged-in. Set to Best battery life when laptop is running on battery power.

    1. Download the free version of CCleaner, an excellent tool for managing the health of your system.  Open the ‘Custom Clean’ and ‘Registry’ Menu on the left.

Under Custom clean, there are two tabs – Windows and Applications. Select all that you wish to delete.

WARNING : Make sure you deselect the option to install AVG Antivirus, which is shown during the CCleaner installation step. Other than that, it’s a perfectly safe application.
